Dave Spiess Owner Select Security Systems, Inc.
Dave Spiess was in the aerospace electronic engineering business before getting into the security industry in 1975, when he took a job with American Protection Industries (API) in Los Angeles, CA. Three years later, Dave, then API’s Service Manager, decided to leave API to start an alarm company in Phoenix, AZ. That company was a partnership which quickly dissolved, leading Dave to establish Select Security in 1981.
In the beginning, Dave handled the sales, installations and billing with help from his wife. They also performed their own monitoring service. Select Security focused on providing residential security for its first 22 years until shifting to servicing commercial customers. Today, 95% of their customers are in the commercial market.
Select Security provides its customers with burglary alarms, fire alarms, emergency notification, visitor management systems, and personnel identification platforms and is currently experiencing the most growth in access control, and CCTV. Select Systems prides itself on providing custom installs that are specifically tailored to their customers’ needs.
Marc began learning the business at a young age and today runs much of the day-to-day operations as the company’s Vice President.
Select Security became a Rapid Response Dealer in 1998 following a visit to the monitoring center. In their search for a new provider, they asked to observe an operator at each of the facilities they were considering. All other centers gave them the option to select between 2-3 operators. However, when visiting Rapid, they were given the ability to pick anyone in the central station. They selected Daren Bailey, an operator with three years tenure at the time, who is still a Rapid Response employee today. Daren is currently in the role of Dealer Support Account Executive and utilizes his 24 year of experience at Rapid to provide Select Security with support every day.
Every time we find a new technology and call Rapid, they already knew about it and are on top of it. That makes our lives easier and our business better.
